Local Wood.
Local Volunteers.
Warmer Homes.

The Bethel Wood Bank is a volunteer-powered nonprofit providing free firewood to households facing heat insecurity in Bethel and surrounding Maine communities.

Our Mission

In rural Maine, heat is essential—but not always affordable. The Bethel Wood Bank brings neighbors together to ensure families, seniors, and individuals who rely on wood heat can stay warm through the winter.

You can help today by donating wood, time, or funds.

What We Do

We collect, process, make available, and deliver firewood—at no cost—to households who need help heating their homes.

Every piece of wood we deliver comes from community generosity and volunteer effort.

Firewood for Neighbors

We provide free firewood to local households who rely on wood heat and are struggling to stay warm during the winter months.

Volunteer Work Days

Our work is powered by volunteers. Community members come together to cut, split, stack, and prepare firewood for distribution throughout the season.

Responsible Wood Sourcing

We source firewood responsibly through donated trees, storm cleanup, and partnerships with local landowners—always prioritizing sustainable practices.

Firewood Delivery

For neighbors who can’t transport firewood themselves, our volunteers deliver wood directly to their homes—ensuring access regardless of mobility or resources.

Why It Matters

For the households we serve, firewood means:

  • Safer homes during extreme cold

  • Less financial stress in winter

  • Better health and peace of mind

When we share firewood, we’re not just sharing heat—we’re sharing dignity, stability, and care for our neighbors.
